YOUR DATA
Privacy notice
A clear summary of how Return to BASE handles information shared through this website.
Last updated: 19 October 2026
This notice explains how we handle personal information submitted through the website, contact forms, newsletter and BASE Snapshot. It will be reviewed as our services and research activities develop.
Who is responsible?
Return to BASE is a trading brand of Joanna Taylor Training Limited (company number 14453928), the data controller for this website. For data protection questions or requests, email jo@returntobase.co.uk.
What we collect, and why
Contact enquiries: the name, email address, organisation (if provided), visitor type, selected interest and message you choose to send. This is used solely to handle your enquiry, arrange a conversation and maintain an accurate record of our correspondence. The lawful basis will normally be legitimate interests or steps requested before entering a contract, depending on the enquiry.
BASE Snapshot: to access results you provide an email address and select how you describe yourself. Your 12 answers and BASE scores are calculated in your browser. To provide personalised results by email, the scores and an email summary are securely submitted for processing alongside your email address and selected visitor type. We do not intentionally save item-level responses as identifiable research records. If you separately opt in to combined trend insights, BASE scores may be sent to an aggregate dataset without your email address. Aggregate results will only be described as anonymous where the risk of re-identification has been assessed. Questions about health or wellbeing can be sensitive, so we ask you not to enter medical information.
Updates and event invitations: if you actively tick an optional checkbox or subscribe to updates separately, we record your consent and its date, source and wording. You can choose not to subscribe without losing access to your Snapshot results or enquiry response. Our updates may include positive psychology, performance thinking, research developments, talks, workshops and invitations. You can unsubscribe using the instructions in each email or by contacting us.
Where information is processed
The website is hosted by Vercel. We use a server-side connection to Google Workspace, including Google Apps Script and Google Sheets, to manage form enquiries, subscription preferences and BASE Snapshot processing, with email delivery through connected Google services. We review supplier arrangements and any applicable international data transfers as part of our ongoing data protection responsibilities.
Retention
We retain enquiries and Snapshot contact details only as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes explained here and any applicable legal obligations. Marketing preferences are held until you unsubscribe or withdraw consent, subject to a limited suppression record where required to respect that choice. We periodically review retention and deletion practices for contact records and aggregate trend data.
Your choices and rights
You may have rights to access, correct, erase, restrict, object to processing and to request data portability. You may complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office. Contact us at jo@returntobase.co.uk; we will verify requests as appropriate. Marketing consent can be withdrawn at any time.
Research is separate
Taking the Snapshot does not enrol you in a study. Any future PhD research will have its own participant information, governance and research consent process where required. We will not silently repurpose identifiable Snapshot information for research.
Cookies and security
We do not currently use advertising or optional analytics tracking cookies in our own website code. Hosting services may process essential technical request information for performance and security. If optional tracking is added, we will review the relevant consent requirements. We use access controls and take reasonable steps to protect stored information.
